A wide, sculptural ash platter shaped by fire, with a fine edge, stepped interior and grain that shifts with the light.

 The platter is turned with an exceptionally fine edge, making the fire treatment a precise and demanding part of the process. Its surface is carefully scorched, then brushed and burnished to remove loose char and reveal a smooth, subtly polished texture.

‘Yakisugi’ is a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation using fire, dating back to the 18th century and historically used for protecting the exterior wooden cladding of buildings.

Suitable for fruit and decorative use. Do not allow fruit or other organic matter to spoil on the surface. Hand wash only, using a damp cloth, and dry promptly. Do not place in a dishwasher or leave immersed in water.

Shaped by fire

Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese method of treating wood with fire. Here it is used not to conceal the ash, but to make its structure more visible. Scorching deepens the grain; careful brushing removes loose char and leaves a refined surface that still carries the energy of the process.

Made by Hand in Estonia

Created in collaboration with Estonian designer Jevgeni Krassi, each piece is shaped from locally sourced timber in his eastern Estonian workshop. The grain, markings and natural character of the wood are allowed to remain visible.
